Golden Gate Dianne's early paintings (1997-2000) vividly
capture the unique and rugged beauty of the South African landscape,
and reveal a strong sense of her connection to the land and the roots
of her African origins.

Blue Vase Assemblage " I enjoy putting images together and making some sort of cohesion in a world of information overload. I reconstruct fragmented pieces and build my images into a picture in the same way a poet would choose words. I am interested in the discarded, the forgotten and the meanings that cling to the disused. The use of collage has enormous potential for my work, transforming common materials, images and meanings, into an expressive whole. it lends itself to spontaneity and becomes like a treasure hunt for just the right piece, torn, cut or found." So much of art today reflects a world in crisis. This is a world entangled by information overload and driven by man's relentless quest for materialism and self gratification. People are finding it increasingly difficult to connect with others, often preferring to escape to a faceless high- tech world of virtual reality. Dianne has developed a growing disillusionment with this world view and a deep sense of people's thirst for a reality beyond the material world. This has led her to focus on an in depth study of the form and face of the icon as an expression of an alternate, more positive, reality. The icon focuses on a reality beyond the physical and inspires at a spiritual level. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR THE LATEST ICON ARTWORKS View more Icon Series in the photo gallery... |
